Suppressing emotions doesnât get rid of them; it just piles them down and concentrates them.
The more you do it, the bigger the explosion will be. But theyâre going to come out one way or another.
Theyâll either explode inwardlyâleading to depression, suicidality, or drug abuseâor theyâll explode outwardly, causing you to yell at people, destroy property, or make impulsive, irrational decisions.
So, imagine a person just being all pent-up for a while, having used dishonesty to suppress their anger.
Then, they find themselves in a safe situationâat home with their partner and kids, at a family dinner, with a friend who never judges them, or simply in the car where no one can see them.
That is when heir brain thinks, âAh, here I can let it out nowâ.
That is when it happens. That is when they snap.
This is what's called a "puke," where all that rage and anger comes pouring out.
