So just to get on the bandwagon…
There's been a lot of drama in the Olympics about the boxer Imane Khelif from Algeria. Long story short: after destroying an opponent easily, she was accused of being a man due to misinformation about a failed sex test .
The anti-transgender crowd - especially the loudest influencer voices - got in too soon with too little information, accusing her of cheating and domestic violence and so on when its simply not true.
Whatever happened in that fight has nothing to do with the transgender debate. I'm not going to get into all that.
What I'm interested in, from a philosophy of integrity perspective, is how these people - like JK Rowling and Joe Rogan etc - are going to respond now the information's become pretty clear that this person Imane is indeed a woman by all definitions and by all means she fairly competed in the sport.
Because confidence is not about being right. It’s more about having the humility and endurance of discomfort to admit when you're wrong.
Are these people going to now come forward, hat in hand, and humbly accept that they impulsively reacted without due process and are wrong, or are they going to dig in and reveal their insecurities?
BTW, to live what I preach, the last thing I remember being wrong about was just the other day, saying Simone Biles won 5 World Championships - it’s actually 6, I didn’t look deep enough.
