I've deliberately avoided speaking about the Palestine/Israel thing for a couple of reasons.

One reason is because I made a commitment to myself to only make content that helps my clients, and not go off on political rants, and the other is because the more I hear about the situation, the more I realise that I don't really know what's going on. I can’t remember the least time I just listened to others about a topic without saying a word, but it’s been helpful to humble myself and receive rather than deliver.

But the reason I want to finally bring it up today is because I found an element of this tragedy that has application for our self-development.

I’ve actually been losing sleep over it. I’ve watched too many debates from both sides, and thinking of all the innocent people dying while religious fanatics use old books to justify murder just upsets me greatly.

But at some point I caught myself with a very uncomfortable and challenging question.

Why now, and why this situation?

I mean, we have child sex trafficking proliferating all over the USA, UK and beyond. We have modern day slavery rampant in Central African coltan mines and Asian fisheries. Suicide rates are at an all time high, as are prison incarceration rates.

And this doesn’t even touch on the vast list of minor and major issues in our own lives that require immediate attention!

There are lots of atrocities happening all the time.

Why do we suddenly care about one of them? And frankly, compared to the others I’ve listed, there’s actually far less suffering and death in this one. So why does this one get to me so intensely and emotionally?

I don't know the answers, but I suspect I have some work do to on the way my brain picks it’s priorities! How about you?
