Mistakes And How To Undo Them

My wife and I are currently in the middle of negotiating a business deal with somebody. We were debating last night what our next move should be.

Then, all of a sudden, we just stopped and assessed the situation and said: "Let's imagine it from his side." Once we considered the other guy's side, we noticed a couple of things.

First, he's an accomplished businessman.

Second, he's a sort of ruthless and vicious fighter, probably a bit sociopathic.

Since he's met both of us before, he sized us up. He's intelligent, and we realized that he has probably accurately guessed our side of things. He is probably fighting from a position of strength, intelligence and ruthlessness.

So, we were actually able to map out where this is gonna go and we saw that it wasn't going to end well for us.

It's amazing to me how often we all get into these kind of negotiations without seeing if it's actually worth it.

If you can just stop, at least once per day, and step back from whatever process you’re in for another check to see if it’s still worth the fight, you could save yourself from all kinds of sunk-cost misery.
