Respect is one of the pillars of self-confidence. But, how do you respect yourself?
Firstly, you have to understand what respect means. Generally speaking, respect means allowing things to exist. Acknowledging them, giving them their space.
If I respect you, it means that I let you do whatever it is that you think is best. If I respect a piece of property, it means that I treat it well: I maintain it, I don't allow it to get into disrepair. Respecting a person is really about allowing them to be whoever they're going to be unless it hurts you personally.
You can apply the same principle inwards.
What would allowing yourself to be, the way you need to be, look like? What would it look like if you stopped sabotaging yourself?
What if you stopped discouraging yourself, stopped being mean to yourself, stopped stopping yourself? What if you only intervened if it was harmful to you?
That's what self-respect looks like: letting yourself live the way you should be.
