Honesty is Radical... or is it?

I was talking with a friend the other day about the concept of radical honesty. We were discussing how strange it is to say that honesty is radical. Shouldn't dishonesty be considered to be the radical one?

Why is it that I have to defend honesty to people, and convince them that honesty is a healthier way to interact? Shouldn't people be convincing me that dishonesty is a good idea?

Isn't it radical to lie to your own children? Isn't it radical to lie to your loved ones? Isn't it radical to manipulate other people with deception so that you can feel slightly more comfortable?

All the while, you keep lying to yourself and keep telling yourself a big story about how your dishonesty is good for people around you. Actually, you're just gaslighting them into believing a reality that doesn't exist, so that you don't have to get into a conflict ever. Isn't that radical?

I don't think that honesty is radical. I think that honesty is healthy, natural, good. It's dishonesty that is fucked up.
